Good idea. Not sure how you have the bandwidth! And thanks for leading with a photo of The Warning. I hope they inspire a generation of girls (and boys too) to pick up guitars and resuscitate rock music. Lord knows it's overdue.
Yes, inspiring the kids is one critical thing to do, and it seems to be happening. When I bought an acoustic guitar recently, they told me teen girls have been buying electric guitars because the local high school had a program. Then when I did a school tour at my high school reunion last fall, they told us that they have a rock band program open to students. And of course Daniel Helkenn set up a program to teach rock to his granddaughter and other kids in his town. So fingers crossed the tide is turning.
I don't have the bandwidth to keep up with other people's posts and am woefully behind. I keep up with stacks that I know talk about these issues and pull good quotes when I find them. And I've downloaded your posts on women in rock - you made it so easy to identify posts that I may want to quote or cross-post. Thank you for that!
Diggin' on The Warning, three-piece band and a triple threat! Sat in with a father and son duo in the hinterlands of blue grass once. Kid was all of eight years old and so good I just put down my six string to listen and watch.
This is a noble cause, Ellen, please keep it going.
SemperFi features in Saturday's S&UP (a ringer!) once again.
Thanks for the link, stopped in for a spell. Don't at all have stage fright myself, but don't see myself doing video any time soon, too busy working on sound.
Jeff and Wilco are going on tour in a couple weeks and they made him stop the session so they could get stuff done. So I'd say an invite now would get lost in their pre-tour preparation. Might be better to wait until he's back from touring, probably the fall.
Well you’re off and running. It will be interesting to see where we all end up. There are a lot of genies out now…not sure they can all be put back in appropriate bottles, but maybe with some ingenuity they won’t have to be.
Yes, you never know what's possible. Never say never about anything. As we know from I Dream of Genie, genies can go back in their bottles voluntarily!
Love these. Thank you. I’m trying to get my own “small” thing going.
Applause and cheers, Chris! It's all about the trying right now given the state of things.
Your experience will be helpful in figuring out what supports are working and what aren't. So I hope you stay involved.
Thank you. Baby steps. And I feel it could be something.

Thanks Ellen. Actually, more coming! Including some on women who are running the show in production.
Perfect!

And big thanks for the mention!
Thanks for the encouragement to keep at it, and looking forward to more SemperFi.
You might want to check out Jeff Tweedy's stack - he just did a half-hour live acoustic session here on substack. Almost like being there. I think you'd enjoy it. Seems more artists are starting to offer them, which is a treat. Should I send him an invite?

We're hobbyists, so we keep our expectations low.
