Record company politics deprived Weitz and King of songwriting credits for the tune, and thus payment of royalties for it. Shouldn't have happened.

Earlier in his career, producer Frank Slay had been in a successful songwriting partnership with Bob Crewe (best known as the producer of the Four Seasons).

Thanks for sharing those facts. It's good Weitz and King are getting credit now at least for their reputation and posterity, but agree that wasn't good.

Some names keep popping up in different contexts. I'll have to look into Slay and Crewe. I have to say that the collaborations in the music business make my head spin. And I need to put the Four Seasons on my song list!
