What a vibrant and sharply drawn opening chapter. Thank you for sharing it!
I’ll admit, I know next to nothing about the world of 80s rock ’n’ roll, but your writing makes it feel strangely familiar. I’m curious to learn more about that era.
One line that really stayed with me was:
“Feel the fear in your belly and go ahead and do scary stuff anyway.”
It’s such a simple but powerful piece of wisdom, and I loved the way you framed it. Lucy isn’t fearless; she’s afraid, but she moves forward anyway. That makes her instantly relatable for me, and I’m already rooting for her.
Thanks for reading it and sharing it in Notes. Appreciated!
I'm glad to hear that Lucy is relatable. You'll meet the lead singer and band this week, and I'll be interested to see if he's relatable too.
What she said comes from a book called Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway by Susan Jeffers. I don't know if Dr Jeffers did workshops at ashrams, but people like her certainly did. I used to go to them at an ashram I frequented in the 80s and 90s. So I'm pretending here that she came to this ashram and what she said spoke to Lucy.
Fear is a key issue in this book, as well some other big issues. Hope it continues to resonate.
This is excellent! Can't wait for more.
Thanks, Hugh!
Hooked!
