Another great chapter, Ellen!

Laughed out loud at this sentence - "He smells divine—that’s Aramis cologne, if I’m not mistaken—with an intriguing undertone of Wipe-It-Fresh." The whole subtext of Jack being a germophobe is comedy gold imo.

And "Netherlude"?? Brilliant!

One thing I'm slightly confused about - "It’s not like I would engage in wild and kinky sex—I haven’t even tried the straight old vanilla sex our parents do yet—".

Is it to be assumed (or revealed) that Lucy is a virgin?

Great how you've incorporated a crowd stampede into Lucy's back story, what you're creating is really historical fiction, in a way.

Great stuff, I look forward to every new chapter.

Thanks for these comments, Hugh!

I did originally have Jack addicted to cleaning with Windex, which has such a recognizable smell, but thought it better to make up a product so I don't violate the Windex trademark. (I don't know how the trademark law works, so better safe than sorry.) Hence Wipe-It-Fresh.

Lucy did make an oblique reference to her virgin status earlier, but more to come on this. Safe to assume that she is.

Buffalo never had a stampede that I'm aware of, but there have been plenty, including a Who concert in Cincinnati in 1979 where 11 people died. So it did seem historically possible that a Magnus stage was overrun by out-of-control fans after a flimsy barrier gave way. And of course perfectionist Jack would be outraged by this.

Those Netherlude guys -- such tossers!

The tragedy at the Who concert in '79 is what I was thinking of. It was the first time something like that occurred at a big U.S. rock concert, and it opened a lot of people's eyes.

I'm surprised that something like it hadn't happened sooner. Getting into the Led

Zep show in 1975 that I posted about here a while back, I was in the middle of a huge uncontrolled crowd being carried towards the Coliseum entrance with my feet barely touching the ground - it was scary to say the least and could easily have turned into a similar disaster.

It took the Who tragedy 4 years later to finally bring about improvements to security and crowd control at rock shows.

I must have missed Lucy's previous 'oblique reference,' will go back and re-read!

That is incredibly scary being carried along as you were, and I understand that it's often people who fall down who get trampled and killed or people who get crushed or suffocated against barriers. I've also read accounts by rock and pop stars about being in vehicles surrounded by crowds and fearing for their lives. Crowds and mobs can be quite frightening.

I think Lucy mentioned her status to Alison in Chapter 5.

Found it, thanks. How could I forget Keith's response to Lucy's admission - "That's what I call a massive waste of talent, that is!"

Ha ha, yeah, that Keith! He's a character and a half.
