A song with an eternally important message. They are so rare.

So true. They really hit it out of the park with this one. Divine intervention maybe?

Another great song Ellen! Do you remember when a bunch of Broadway actors got together to record a version of this song for the Orlando club massacre? It was quite moving! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5AyGvJcyoU

That is very moving. I don't think I was living in the US at the time, so don't remember it. Thanks for sharing that, Dan!

For me, this song will also be associated with the incredible, profound ending of Paul Mazurksy's 'Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice.'

I haven't seen that film in so many years! I'll have to watch it now that you've said that, to see how they've used the song and to revisit the film given how you've described the ending.

Love that song! And I might argue that *all* of Bacharach-David's collaborations were 'little masterpieces.'

Fun factoid on Jackie De Shannon: she and Jimmy Page had an affair and also collaborated musically in the mid-'60s. They co-wrote a few songs together, and she sang backup vocals on Jimmy's only '60s solo single, "She Just Satisfies" (Fontana, 1965), recorded & released while he was still making his name playing sessions.

Thanks for that bit of history. I managed to find his solo song on YT -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0isgc4EtQZU.

Reminds me of some other groups of that era. He could have been a lead singer!

I think that's Jackie yelling "Oh yeah!"
